“The art at Art Series Hotels is not for stealing.”
So begins a blog post from Art Series Hotel, before detailing that yes, there is one piece of art guests may attempt to steal: An authenticated Banksy. How’s that for a souvenir?
The work, “No Ball Games,” was originally stolen when some industrious thieves removed it from a wall using an angle grinder. The work was later found on eBay, being sold for 20,000 pounds. Guests (and only guests) who stay at the Art Series Hotel are encouraged to try their hand at lifting the iconic work. “No Ball Games” will make a rotation around the various Hotel locations, hidden but available for someone with itchy fingers. If successful (and uncaught), the enterprising art thief gets to walk away with the $15,000 masterpiece. The contest is open from December 15 to January 15, with clues as to its whereabouts shared on Twitter and Facebook.
So the question is: who wants to send me to Australia and let me fulfill my Carmen Sandiego fantasies?
